The Kutná Hora International Music Festival ranks among Czech foremost chamber music events. The general outline of its programme and the selection of artists taking part are determined by the festival’s artistic director, the cellist Jiří Bárta.

The programme is focused predominantly on classical chamber music. That notwithstanding, Jiří Bárta has invariably incorporated into the festival lineup of concerts a special treat picked from the domains of crossover, jazz, or even rock music. This is a feature that has never failed to thrill the event’s audiences.

Everything that can be heard at the festival is actually created on the spot, in Kutná Hora. Most of the concerts come into existence as a result of as many creative workshops. That, to be sure, is something which sets this particular festival apart from most others, since otherwise it is extremely rare for a group of excellent solo musicians to get together on the same stage at one time. Hence the immense joy of music-making that is literally tangible during each of the concert nights here.

The concerts take place in Corpus Christi Chapel, Church of St. Barbara, Refectory of Jesuit College – Central Bohemian Region Gallery / GASK, etc.

“This was Bárta’s Bach. Throughout the recital, his technical command of cello and bow were manifest, aiding and abetting his musical ideas.”
